Westinghouse Electric Spain
Presentation
Westinghouse Electric Spain SAU (WES), a subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric Company WEC, provides engineering services. WES provides fuel, services, technology, plant design, and equipment to utility and industrial customers. WES supplies services to the commercial nuclear electric power industry worldwide. Since 1986, WES has gained a deep experience in dismantling of all types of nuclear reactors that has provided a wide set of lessons learned to be applied in INNO4GRAPH to help in the planning of decisions of the project.
Role in the Project
WES will be heavily involved in the activities aiming at the realisation of the physical and mechanical characterisation tools . It will provide calculation and sampling data of Vandellos I pile, and analyse the adequacy of existing data for the specific purpose of dismantling planning and execution.
WES will contribute to the rest of the project work with its experience in cutting tools and techniques and taking in consideration the specific challenges of dismantling of big structures.

Key personnel

Rafael García Castro
Manager of Nuclear Waste Management
Rafael joined Westinghouse in 1989 and holds experience in Field Services Nuclear plants as Field Services Engineer and later as EMEA Field Services Operations Manager. As D&D role, was the Project Manager of Jose Cabrera NPP Reactor vessel and Internals Segmentation. Participates in International projects in several plants in USA and Europe. EMEA Southern Manager for Dismantling in WES including projects as Bohunice Dismantling and Spanish.

Gonzalo Medinilla Tellez
Project Manager of the Division of Reactor Decommissioning Projects
Gonzalo joined Westinghouse in 1992. Has background in nuclear safety, radiological protection and licensing. Since 2000 involved in decommissioning & waste management projects, initially as safety & licensing specialist, and later as project manager, including engineering for the decommissioning of facilities like FUA uranium milling plant, Vandellòs 1 (graphite gas-cooled reactor), PIMIC (research reactor and spent fuel reprocessing facility), and Santa María de Garoña NPP (BWR), as well as design project of ATC (Spanish spent fuel interim storage facility).

Fernando Beltran de Heredia
Project Manager
Fernando is involved in the project of Dismantling and Closing of the NPP Vandellós I ENRESA. Developed subjects:
- Safe store Phase Activities: Update as-built documentation, Licensing support, Surveillance Plan enhancements, waste management, international experiences in graphite gas reactors, etc.
- Caisson stability: corrosion, internal structures characterisation, 3D model, elastomeric pads studies, etc.
- Site Restoration
- R&D activities
- Level 3 Basic Decommissioning Plan: analysis of decommissioning strategies, comparative analysis of dry vs. underwater strategy and development of basic plan

Rui Pedro de Castro Meireles
Principal Engineer, currently member of the group Advanced Analysis & Risk Applications for Decommissioning
Actual role is Technical Leader of the “Project D4.2 Dismantling of Reactor Coolant System Large Components of V1 Jaslovské Bohunice NPP” (Slovakia). Previously, six years in the Decommissioning of José Cabrera NPP (Zorita) in different on-site positions for projects such as the Internals and Vessel Segmentation, or the Activated and Contaminated Concrete Dismantling. Acquired expertise on Graphite Reactors during the technical leading of the decommissioning strategy development for Vandellòs 1 NPP, which work package was composed of the “Background analysis of the decommissioning of Graphite-gas reactors” , of the “Analysis of decommissioning strategies”, of the “Comparative analysis: Dry vs. Underwater”, and of the “Basic Decommissioning Plan”.
