Presentation
EDF is a French electric utility company. Its 58 active nuclear reactors are spread out over 19 sites. DP2D involved in INNO4GRAPH is in charge of decommissioning and waste management for EDF. In particular, EDF owns a fleet of six gas graphite reactors shut down in the 1990s. The dismantling operations of their reactor block will start with the dismantling of Chinon A2. It will be preceded by the building of a reactor decommissioning demonstrator which aims at testing and training people to increase safety, mastering schedule, reducing costs, increasing operators’ efficiency and confidence and minimising dosimetry as well as secondary waste.
EDF DP2D is also leading important projects in the field of radioactive waste management, for example with the ICEDA installation, which will enter under industrial service by the end of 2020. This installation is designed to pack and store MAVL waste from decommissioning facilities.
In addition, EDF DP2D owns three industrial waste metal treatment assets in France, Sweden and UK, grouped together within the Cyclife holding company.
Based on proven know-how, both in terms of waste management and decommissioning, the DP2D pursues an international development strategy in these two areas.
Role in the Project
- EDF coordinates the INNO4GRAPH project and will take an active part in almost all the tasks of the project.
- At the end of the project, it will be the main redactor of the roadmap for further developments. As the other project managers or contracting authorities involved in INNO4GRAPH project, EDF is interested in comparing, improving and testing its technical, organisational and strategic choices for the dismantling of its Chinon A2 reactor.
- EDF will contribute to the project by offering its expertise as well as a real case to be addressed (Chinon Nuclear Power Plant), EDF will play a particular role by being the owner of the future industrial demonstrator.

EDF DP2D Graphite Reactors Decommissioning Demonstrator project leader since 2018, in charge of international partnerships and technological development.
Between 2004 and 2018 Philippe Lefevre was in charge of graphite reactor dismantling studies for Chinon A, Bugey 1 and Saint-Laurent A.

EDF DP2D coordinator of R&D and Innovation activities for the Waste Management and Decommissioning Direction (DP2D) of EDF.
12 years of experience in conducting R&D projects connected to both nuclear and hydraulic energy production as well as team management.
