SOGIN – Società Gestione Impianti Nucleari Per Azioni
Presentation
SOGIN is the Italian state-owned company responsible for the decommissioning of Italian nuclear plants and the management of radioactive wastes. SOGIN is also in charge of the siting, designing, building and operating of the National Repository, an environmental near surface facility for the safe long-term storage and disposal of all radioactive wastes: a right of Italian citizens and a need for the country.
On the same site of the National Repository, a Technology Park will be created: a research center and a creative environment, open to international cooperation, where innovations in the fields of nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and sustainable development will be generated.
SOGIN is a company wholly owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and operates according to the Italian Government strategies. In addition to the Trino (Vercelli), Caorso (Piacenza), Latina and Garigliano (Caserta) nuclear power plants, and also to the nuclear fuel manufacturing plant of Bosco Marengo (Alessandria), SOGIN is in charge of the decommissioning of the ENEA nuclear fuel cycle research plants: EUREX in Saluggia (Vercelli), OPEC and IPU in Casaccia (Roma) and ITREC in Rotondella (Matera).
Role in the Project
SOGIN takes part in the project as an End-user but it also contributes to the project by giving existing data from and global dismantling scenario of Latina NPP. It will also develop, test, and validate the tool for graphite cracks detection. Finally, SOGIN will contribute to the analysis of existing standard tools according to its own knowledge and experience and to the definition of non-standard tools specifications.
