Ansaldo Nucleare
Presentation
In more than 50 years of business, Ansaldo Nucleare, ANN, the leading Italian company in the nuclear sector, has developed relevant technical knowledge and expertise to deliver innovative products in the nuclear market. Building on the experience derived from the design and construction role in early generations nuclear power plants, the unique competencies, problem solving capabilities and flexibility gained by ANN have been recently oriented towards activities for safety upgrades, re-powering, plant-life ex-tension on existing NPPs. In the framework of the European and International cooperation, ANN develops innovative Nuclear Power Plants, offering enhanced safety features and economic improvements for the electrical production, with a view to reducing the radioactive wastes generated by the plants. Focusing on decommissioning experience, ANN is an engineering company with a key role in the development of tailored equipment and solutions. In the last years, it worked on several activities, like the decommissioning framework engineering contract for the EC Ispra JRC, the cost analysis and preliminary design for decommissioning management and reactor secondary system decommissioning for different Italian research reactors, the retrieving, dismantling and packing of INM items stored in ADECO cells with special tools and equipment, the design, manufacturing and commissioning of a special machine for waste retrieval (“Lancia LECO”) and handling (“MRF”) at different Italian NPPs.
Role in the Project
Within INNO4GRAPH, ANN will contribute to the analysis of the commercially available standard tools and to the assessment of their possible “nuclearization”, as well as the definition of the technical characteristics and features of the non-standard tools to-be-developed after the end of the INNO4GRAPH project and. It will also lead the development of the multi-joint manipulator, based on the specifications and needs to overcome intrinsic limitations of standard tools.
In addition to this, ANN will also create a 3D model representation of the multi-joint manipulator and, prepare a report including a dedicated assessment of the deployment of the multi-joint manipulator in a virtual environment in all project phases (i.e. installation and operation).

Key personnel

Maurizio Mancino
Technical Coordinator
Maurizio joined ANN in 2010 as radiation protection expert. He worked in the decommissioning and waste management field for several years, following different aspects of the projects (waste management strategies, dismantling techniques, time schedule and cost assessment.
From 2013 he has been working as technical coordinator and project engineer on several D&WM projects, in Italy and abroad, with other European partners.
From 2019 he is part of the R&D and Technical Integration Unit.

Francesco Orzelli
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Francesco joined ANN in 2007 and he was involved – first as engineer and later as technical manager – in the development of special components for radioactive waste handling and segmentation. He provides technical solutions for different nuclear project (Ignalina B2 NPP, AP1000, all Italians NPP, ADECO cells at Ispra JRC, Sellafield), starting from design and up to manufacturing and commissioning.

Monica Frogheri
Project Manager
Monica joined ANN in 2000 as safety expert participating in the AP1000 licensing activities, mainly in thermo-hydraulic and containment analyses. From 2011 she has been working as project manager on international projects, among which several EU-funded projects focused on GEN IV plants (LEADER, Maxsima, Scintilla, OPTS, Sargen IV, Siler, Arcadia, Freya, ESNII+, Chanda).
