ENRESA – Empresa Nacional de Residuos Radiactivos
Presentation
ENRESA is the Spanish radioactive waste management agency, with considerable experience in research and technological activities related to radioactive waste disposal and management of large industrial facilities and research programmes.
ENRESA is a public company founded in 1985 by the Spanish Government for the management of radioactive wastes, including:
- Design, construction and operation of facilities for the disposal of low-level waste (LLW), interim storage and final disposal of spent fuel (SF), vitrified high-level waste (HLW) and intermediate-level waste (ILW).
- Decommissioning of nuclear facilities, including nuclear power plants (NPP)
- Drafting the R&D plans to cover the needs of the concepts and technical solutions for managing the radioactive wastes and SF in Spain.
Role in the Project
The role of Enresa is to provide existing data, including the 3D model and the dismantling scenario, of the Vandellós I reactor, to develop a database and define the physical and radiological data of reactors to be stored, and to provide information on phenomena which may have affected the graphite properties.
As Vandellòs I is at the moment in a stage of latency for a period that should end in 2030, Enresa aims at progressing in its own dismantling scenario for the Vandellós I reactor through the project.
